Hi Kerry,
My horse is a shire, Irish cob cross very big boned and somewhat overweight after having the summer off due to abcesses. That aside, he has a few health conditions which have been there since before I had him in various ways.
1. Laminitis, he is on restricted grazing (I can't keep a muzzle on), approx 5-6 hours a day in a starvation paddock.
2. He has severe sweet itch - he wears a boett and also I give him feelgood 30 skin supplement which seems to help.
3. He gets skin irritation on his legs, broken & sore at times, so I keep his feathers short and bathe with hibiscrub weekly.
4. He has arthritis in both hocks and in his coffin joint one one fore, he has 1 x danilon pain killer per day, now an dup to 2 to try and get him sound and back into work after a period off with abcesses in front foot . I have also previously tried magnetic therapy to help, but found they irritated the skin consituition as it made his legs sweat and therefore the bacteria loved it!
